The Glass Factory

Founded in 1990, The Glass Factory was the first hand-blown glass workshop in Baja California Sur and remains one of the area's most visited craft stops. A team of artisans works the furnaces six days a week, producing drinkware, bowls, vases, pitchers and decorative pieces from recycled, lead-free glass. A seating area overlooks the workshop, and there is no charge to watch. The building itself is decorated with glass throughout. It sits in the El Arenal neighbourhood, a few minutes inland from downtown, and suits families and design-minded shoppers alike.

Visitors describe the demonstrations as fascinating and say the process gives a new appreciation for the skill involved; many spend 30 to 45 minutes. Pieces are generally considered fairly priced for handmade work. Glassblowing pauses on Sundays, so visit Monday to Saturday. Hotels, restaurants and individuals can commission custom pieces.
