Taller Maya
San José del Cabo outlet of Taller Maya, a Yucatán design brand selling handmade homeware, textiles and accessories by Maya artisan communities, on Boulevard Antonio Mijares.
About
Taller Maya is a Mexican design label that grew out of the economic development programme of the Haciendas del Mundo Maya Foundation, working with artisans in rural communities of the Yucatán Peninsula, many of them women. Its collections reinterpret Maya craft traditions in contemporary form, with pieces such as carved stone vases, woven baskets, embroidered textiles, tableware, candle holders, jewellery and natural bath products. The San José del Cabo shop is on Boulevard Antonio Mijares, the main avenue into the historic centre, and suits shoppers looking for design-led, ethically produced homeware and gifts.
The few reviews so far describe a refined shop with high-quality handmade pieces from artisan communities. It is an easy stop on the way to or from the Gallery District, and the brand's focus on fair, community-based production appeals to visitors who want to know where their purchases come from.
